Brent Cross Town, the new £7 billion, 180-acre net-zero new park town, is presenting its evolving plans for Clitterhouse Playing Fields to local residents and members of the community as part of an online exhibition and series of in-person events running from 14 to 27 March.
At 44-acres, Clitterhouse Playing Fields is the largest open green space in Brent Cross Town and it sits at the centre of Argent Related’s and Barnet Council’s new town centre. Equivalent to approximately 22 football pitches, Clitterhouse Playing Fields has the potential to become one of North London’s most significant public parks.
In October 2021, Brent Cross Town consulted the local community on its vision to rejuvenate the playing fields and its aim to provide a diverse mix of facilities to promote wellbeing, sports and play for people who live, work and visit in the area now, and in the future.
Feedback from over 200 people was received and clearly indicated that many like and use the fields regularly for activities such as walking and socialising but it is important to provide an environment that is more welcoming for all. Improvements to accessibility into the park, more litter bins and seating were all suggested as ways to make the playing fields feel safer and inviting for everyone. The need for more facilities and the preference to maintain the openness of the playing fields were both highlighted.
The exhibition, which launches on Monday 14 March, gives the local community the opportunity to see how their comments have been incorporated into the designs and to share their thoughts on the progressed vision for Clitterhouse Playing Fields. Members of the community will be able to look at proposals for the new high-quality facilities, including a pavilion with a café, public toilets and sports changing facilities, and how provision for a range of different sports, including tennis, football, parkour and teqball have been considered. They will also be able to respond to the plans for enhancing the open green space and providing new routes for walking and running, and new trees and wildflowers planting. The exhibition also invites the local community to give feedback on how they would like to see dog walking and exercising managed in the playing fields.
The online exhibition will be available to view https://bxt.uk/cpfconsult. Brent Cross Town will also be hosting in-person exhibitions from 4 to 7pm on Thursday 17 March and 11am to 3pm on Sunday 20 March at Brent Cross Town Workshop on Claremont Way, and 11am to 3pm on Saturday 26 March at Clitterhouse Farm.
A webinar is also being hosted on Wednesday 23 March, from 6.30 to 7.30pm offering another way for local people to engage with the plans for the playing fields.
Morwenna Hall, Partner of Argent Related, said: “The insight, knowledge and ideas we received from the local community as part of our first round of consultation has been extremely valuable in helping us shape our designs. It is important to us that we share our evolved vision for Clitterhouse Playing Fields so that the community can continue to support us in delivering the best space to accommodate everyone.”
Councillor Daniel Thomas, Leader of Barnet Council, added: “Clitterhouse Playing Fields are at the heart of Brent Cross Town’s vision to create a new park town that enhances the space around it. As the second round of consultation launches, I encourage residents to continue to share their views on how these exciting plans are developed to be as accessible, inclusive and enjoyable as possible for those that live nearby.”
