Our immune systems and brain function are thriving when we can live our lives to the fullest. The Flourishing Index is a new system that will allow us to measure how effectively Brent Cross Town is supporting the wellbeing of those who live, work and study here.
We are working with Buro Happold and the University of Manchester’s Dr Jamie Anderson to apply a scientific research approach to social observation in order to be able to quantify wellbeing.
“Wellbeing is more complex than quantum physics and the questions are twice as interesting”
Johannes Eichstaedt, Stanford University

WHAT ARE WE MEASURING?
As well as individual flourishing, this new index will look at neighbourhood social flourishing, in the form of safety, trust and participation. Where existing wellbeing measures fixate on the individual, this will systematically examine how communities feel socially and realise their potential collectively. This will be one of the first times a neighbourhood has created a tool for measuring how happy people are in their local areas from the outset of the urban regeneration project and at this scale. A mix of research methods was used to collect data including face-to-face and online surveys, local observations and the latest sensor technology to monitor movement.
INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY

BRENT CROSS TOWN COMMUNITY FUND
Since 2019, Brent Cross Town Community Fund has supported 63 local projects by awarding £280,000 in funding to community groups and organisations. Every year for the last seven years, we have opened applications for good causes to apply for funding. We have calculated that more than 16,000 people have benefitted from this funding.
For 2025, Brent Cross Town Community Fund focused on groups that support education, employment and skills training.
