Brent Cross Town, the new £7 billion, 180-acre net-zero new park town, has launched a public consultation for Clitterhouse Playing Fields, the 44-acre open green space which is central to Argent Related and Barnet Council’s vision for the new town centre. The consultation is open from today, Monday 4th October, and will close on Sunday 31 October 2021.
Local residents and members of the community are being invited to share their thoughts and give feedback on the Clitterhouse Playing Fields. This insight will help to shape the design that is being developed within the existing outline planning permission, which has been granted to include traditional sport and play facilities and a pavilion.
The playing fields are equivalent to approximately 22 football pitches. But despite their size, the lack of amenities and facilities mean they are currently limited to a handful of uses. This unique space within the local community has the potential to become one of North London’s most significant public parks.
This first round of consultation aims to ensure that local residents have the opportunity to guide the rejuvenation and improvement of the playing fields so that they are more accessible, inclusive and welcoming to everyone in the existing community and future residents of Brent Cross Town.
The aim is to create an even more enjoyable place for people to spend time, supporting Brent Cross Town’s pledge to prioritise quality of life for all its communities. The Clitterhouse Playing Fields will offer new places to relax and enjoy green spaces, to grab a coffee and meet with friends. They will also be a place where anyone, regardless of age, gender or ability can participate in active play and sport, or enjoy as a spectator. The ambition is to offer a wide variety of new sports and play facilities that are accessible to all, as well as clear and safe routes throughout the fields.

Local people can provide their thoughts via a questionnaire. Brent Cross Town wants to know how the community likes to use Clitterhouse Playing Fields currently and their hopes for the playing fields in the future.
Brent Cross Town will also be holding a series of in-person events on:
- Tuesday 19 and Wednesday October 2021, 4pm-7pm at The WorkShop on Claremont Way, NW2 1AJ
- Saturday 23 October 2021 11am-3pm at Clitterhouse Farm, Claremont Road, NW2 1AP
- Sunday 24 October 2021 11am-6pm at The WorkShop on Claremont Way, NW2 1AJ
Morwenna Hall, Partner of Argent Related, says:
“Clitterhouse Playing Fields are a unique open green space that are an important part of the local area for many people. The scale of the playing fields, together with the limited facilities they offer at present, gives us an opportunity to enhance what is on offer and to support both physical and mental wellbeing in the community. That’s why we are asking the local community to share their invaluable insight, knowledge and ideas with us to help us shape our proposals.”
Councillor Daniel Thomas, Leader of the Council, said:
“Clitterhouse Playing Fields are at the heart of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme. They will play a key role in ensuring Barnet’s new park town enhances the health and wellbeing of those that live there or visit from across the borough. The views of the community are essential in informing the way the Clitterhouse Playing Fields are transformed in the future and I encourage everyone to have their say and get involved in the plans as they are developed. “
