Insider Guide: Sharaz Badr
I have lived in North West London for 10 years, having moved from West London for the single reason that it was exactly the kind of area I imagined raising my children.
North London has so much to offer: picturesque Hampstead village and Hampstead Heath, the Parliament Hill view of London and the annual National Cross Country Race. Finchley is rich in culture and boasts a tight-knit community. Discover charity shops, boutiques and restaurants showcasing cuisines from all over the world.
Alexandra Palace is infamous for its annual fireworks display, festival and concerts. It’s also where you’ll see runners, like me. I am known amongst my friends and family as ‘the Running Man’. I earned this nickname because whenever someone sees me, I am running or coaching runners. I am a fully qualified British Athletics Coach specialised in Endurance Running, as well as a British Athletics Qualified Official for both Track and Endurance. I coach at Highgate Harriers and Finchley Running Club, helping athletes of all ages to achieve their goals and most importantly, to enjoy exercise.
Here are five of my must-visit spots:
1. Oasis Moroccan Restaurant

One of my favourite restaurants is a hidden cove where you are transported to Morocco with eye-catching interiors and an authentic menu of North African cuisine.
Insider Tip: Order a lamb or chicken tagine – that’s what Morocco is known for
2. Silk Route
Location: 745 High Rd, North Finchley N12 0BP
Silk Route is the kind of store you don’t want to miss, bursting with pretty tapestries and chic household items, all handmade in Turkey and the Mediterranean
Insider Tip: Try out some musk incense– it smells so nice!
3. Park Run
Location: Hampstead Heath

Runners of all levels can enjoy an uplifting community atmosphere while keeping fitness levels up and de-stressing in one of London’s most beautiful parks.
Insider Tip: Stick around afterwards for a nice group trip to Euphorium Artisan Bakery for a post-run coffee.
4. Sherrards Bakery

The ever-present smell of this bakery’s items entices you in and there are many irresistible patisseries to choose from.
Insider Tip: The jam doughnuts, which always seem to be fresh out of the oven, are to die for!
5. Phoenix Cinema
