We have recently submitted a planning application for the erection of a new Primary Substation. This will provide power for the entire Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration area. Along with the adjacent energy centre, it will form a combined energy ‘compound’ at the northernmost tip of the Brent Cross Town masterplan. The substation equipment will be enclosed in an architectural ‘wrap’ designed by IF_DO architects. The architects will be working with the emerging North London artist Lakwena (who has fed into the architectural design too) to develop the final cladding design into a large-scale piece of public art (see illustrative image below), thus creating a landmark that will capture the imagination and speak to the values and ambitions of the wider Brent Cross Town development.
We look forward to discussing the emerging artistic design to be displayed on the ‘wrap’ with the local community and Council as the design of the artwork continues to develop. If you would like to find out more information on the submission itself, the application is available via the London Borough of Barnet website using the reference number 21/2257/FUL.
